Informationcentre de Noordwester
An experience for young and old. Information about the nature, the people and the life at and around Vlieland. In the seastreet you can meet the underwater life of Vlieland. You may not miss the Jutterszolder, with all the discoveries of the beach, and the Wrakvondstenzolder with the discoveries of the divers of Vlieland. For the young visitors there is the pixie forest. In the small cinema the most beautiful movies of the Wadden area and vlieland are broadcasted. The skeleton of the sperm whale which is stranded at the beach in 2004 can be seen overhere. Besides all this you can register for the excursions which are organised by the Noordwester. 

Museum Tromps Huys
In the middle of the Dorpsstraat the oldest house of Vlieland located. It is built short after 1575. Since 1956 Museum Tromp's Huys is stated here. Tromp's Huys has been the home of some commissioners of the Admirality. From 1896 it was the home of the Akersloot couple. The lady, Betzy Akersloot-Berg from Norway, had her studio in the back of the lovely garden with a beautifur view at the Waddensea.

The Vliehors Expres
The Vliehors Expres make trips at the Vliehors an area of 20 square kilometers at the westside of Vlieland. This area is also called the Sahara of the North. With a converted army truck you will go the point of Vlieland where you often can see seals. You also visit the Reddingshuisje at the middle of the Vliehors. In the early days this was a safe place for stranded drowning. Nowadays it is a museum. Everything which can be seen overhere is found on the beach from cigarettes to mail in a bottle. Since 1997 is the Reddingshuisje one of the official wedding locations at Vlieland. These unique wedding location can be found since a few years in the worldwide top 10 of the most beautifull wedding locations. 

Seal excursion
An amazing experience; on a speedboat to the natural environment of the seals. About 200 seals are living at 3 kilometres from Vlieland, between Vlieland and Terschelling. This place is called the Engelse Hoek. This because of the English war ships which sunk overhere. 

The Posthuys
After a biketrip from about 7 kilometres to the westside of Vlieland you arrive at the Posthuys. In the early days this was the place where the mail arrived at Vlieland from Texel. Nowadays it is a restaurant where you can have lunch or enjoy a cup of coffee. If you like to visit Texel from this point the Vliehors Express will breng you to the ferry at the Vliehors. 

Horse Riding
At Vlieland there are different bridleways. These are in the dunes, the forrest and at the beach. For horse and rider hours pleasure. There are 2 horse stables at the island where horses are for rent. 


Lighthouse
The lighthouse of Vlieland is located at the 40 metres high Vuurboetsduin just outside the village Oost-Vlieland. The lighthouse itself is only 18 metres. When it's dark the light of the lighthouse turns on automatically. Each lighthouse has their own character. On Vlieland this is 2 seconds on and 2 seconds off. The view from the lighthouse is marvellous, at bright days you can see Harlingen and Terschelling. The lighthouse is open to visit throughout the whole year.
