History

The old Doniahuis was built in 1960. Mr. G. Donia has ensured that the holiday residence was built. In the sixties and the seventies the Doniahuis was only open for 4 til l5 months per year (during the summer). The guests were mainly school who where part of the Stichting Volksonderwijs. The owner of the Doniahuis was the Stichting Volksonderwijs.

The family Wolfswinkel ran the Doniahuis till 1973, after them the family Beerta came to run the Doniahuis. This was only for 1 year. Then the family van Koot started in the Doniahuis.

Mr. T. van Koot, now divorced and remarried, bought the Doniahuis in 1986 from the Stichting Volksonderwijs. There were still many schools who visit the doniahuis. There were schools visiting for years and years the Doniahuis since the beginning, but there were also new schools and groups like sportteams and family's.

In 1999 Mrs. van Koot - de Vries passed away, after this sun Jan Peter van Koot took over the Doniahuis. Mr. T. van Koot teached his sun in 1 year all Jan Peter had to know about running the business. After 1 year Mr. T. van Koot started to enjoy his well earned rest. Unfortunately he died to soon at the age of 57 in 2002 at Vlieland.

Jan Peter van Koot run the business like everybody was used to it. There were still many schools but also sportteams and family's. Most of the time Jan Peter took care for the breakfast, lunch and the dinner but there were also groups who did this by themselves.

The old Doniahuis was built in 1960 and made of old materials. The maintenance took very much time. Also the wishes and needs of the guests changed, they wanted more privacy and luxury. They idea was born to change the Doniahuis and make hotelrooms instead of a holiday residence for groups.

We started in October 2007 with the development of a complete new building with 32 hotelrooms, a beauty salon, sunbed and breakfastroom. The new building will be called Hotel DoniaState Vlieland.
